Lessons learned:

If something is owned by everybody, than nobody will own it. This “communal” rice field was left to the birds and to rot in the field because the dominant development thinking of handing out things is not sustainable. The idea that handing out ‘free rice’ will impact the economy and livelihood is not supported by empirical evidence as illustrated in this example.
