MedLife Ltd. that was founded in 2013 has become a reputable organic rice producer in Liberia and is currently cultivating organic rice on hundreds of acres of farmland. Apart from the long-term commercial interest to successive expand its agro-business across Liberia, MedLife aims to create jobs and income for rural people as well as to foster cooperation between private and public sector institutions to promote sustainable growth in organic rice production and improved access to nutrition within the food sector of Liberia.
MedLife, which has longstanding working experience and knowledge in agriculture, will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of this project. However, due to the fact, that MedLife does not fulfil all the participation criteria of develoPPP, ACICO, one of the biggest Liberian insurance companies that is also active in the agricultural sector, will act as a guarantor for this project. MedLife has business relations to European and Asian traders and producers that concentrate on agricultural machinery as well as rice production and processing.
Although MedLife`s business activities are mainly concentrating on Liberia, it collaborates with similar actors across the countries of the Mano River Union, especially in terms of technical aspects of rice production.
MedLife`s core business is organic rice production in Liberia. The associated business activities cover the following areas:
- cultivation, distribution and sales of rice,
- provision of knowledge, experiences and services to increase rice yields and income as well as the efficiency of postharvest management,
- provision of rice value added processing technology,
- assist farmers to better manage, harvest and purchase rice at good farm gate prices.
